The peso is the currency of Mexico. he peso is subdivided into 100 centavos, represented by "¢".

The name was originally used in reference to pesos oro (gold weights) or pesos plata (silver weights). The literal English translation of the Spanish word peso is weight.

The Mexican peso is the 12th most traded currency in the world. Currently printed denominations are $20, $50, $100, $200, $500 and $1000.

The coins that are frequently used are of the denominations 10¢, 20¢, 50¢, $1, $2, $5, $10 and rarely used denominations are 5¢, $20, $50, $100.
