Food from plants
Food gives energy and is essential for the growth. Different kinds of food comes from different sources. The main source of food are plants and animals.

Below listed are some source of food from plants.

Cereals

Cereals are grasses cultivated for the edible components of their grain composed of the endosperm, germ, and bran.

Cereals grains and produced by cereal crops like wheat, barley, maize, rice, oats and millet etc. Cereal grains are grown in greater quantities and provide more food energy worldwide than any other type of crop; they are therefore staple crops.

In their natural form as in whole grain, they are a rich source vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats, oils and protein. However, when refined by the removal of the bran and germ, the remaining endosperm is mostly carbohydrate and lacks the majority of the other nutrients.

Pulses
A pulse is an annual leguminous crop yielding from one to twelve seeds of variable size, shape, and color within a pod. Pulses are used for food and animal feed.

The term "pulse", as used by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), is reserved for crops harvested solely for the dry seed. This excludes green beans and green peas, which are considered vegetable crops. Also excluded are crops that are mainly grown for oil extraction (oilseeds like soybeans and peanuts), and crops which are used exclusively for sowing (clovers, alfalfa)

.India is the world's largest producer and the largest consumer of pulses.

Fruits
A fruit is usually any sweet-tasting plant product, especially those associated with seeds. Fruits like mangoes, apples and bananas are fleshy fruits. Walnuts, almonds are dry fruits. Orange, lemon and amla are citrus fruits.

Many hundreds of fruits, including fleshy fruits like apple, peach, pear, kiwifruit, watermelon and mango are commercially valuable as human food, eaten both fresh and as jams, marmalade and other preserves. Fruits are also used in manufactured foods like cookies, muffins, yogurt, ice cream, cakes, and many more. Many fruits are used to make beverages, such as fruit juices (orange juice, apple juice, grape juice, etc.) .

Fruits are generally high in fiber, water, vitamin C and sugars, although this latter varies widely from traces as in lime, to 61% of the fresh weight of the date.Regular consumption of fruit is associated with reduced risks of cancer, cardiovascular disease , stroke, Alzheimer disease, cataracts, and some of the functional declines associated with aging.Diets that include a sufficient amount of potassium from fruits and vegetables also help reduce the chance of developing kidney stones and may help reduce the effects of bone-loss. Fruits are also low in calories which would help lower one's calorie intake as part of a weight-loss diet.
